THREE Heywood players reached significant milestones during the 2017 season.
The Club’s second term in the Greater Manchester Cricket League saw them successfully regain their Premier status, and they were only denied the chance to win the Division One championship when the last match of the season at home to Greenmount was washed out.
But for Bobby Cross, Danny Pawson and Chris Kaye the campaign further cemented their names into the Crimble record books.
Cross scored 590 runs at an average of 45.4 in Greater Manchester League competitions to take his overall career total past the 15,000-run mark.
The 34-year-old’s exact total of 15,154 is formidable in its own right, but would assume even loftier proportions if non-Greater Manchester League and previously non-Central Lancashire League contributions were taken into consideration. Twenty-20 matches do not count in the calculations, also.
Pawson, meanwhile, made 617 runs at an average of 44.1 during the Greater Manchester season and he is in third place in the list of all-time Heywood run-scorers.
His overall total of 6,203 puts him behind second-placed Mark Wright’s 7,462, albeit that in 2016 the 26-year-old was the designated club professional.
And Kaye’s return to the first team for the last three completed matches of the 2017 season resulted in a further personal haul of 13 wickets, taking his overall total to 901. That is 112 more than second-placed David Fare.
Like Cross, it’s another prodigious statistic set by the 48-year-old, and the landmarks of the pair will certainly stand the test of time!
Pawson’s all-round value to the side is underlined by 26 wickets in GML games, although Simon Dawson tops the list with 35 victims, just two more than 16-year-old Jack Morley.
Andy Kerr made 640 runs at an average of 35.6, while professional Travis Townsend contributed 509 at 36.4. Townsend also claimed 25 wickets.

Having taken over the role of Statistician following on from Vernon and Flo I have delved into the club records of non CLL and non GMCL Cup competitions since the introduction of the Lancs Knockout Cup. Chris has taken another 44 wickets in matches which previously have not counted in our official stats. This means that in all competitions he has taken 945 wickets for the first team. One more season could therefore get him to a magical 1000.
Bobby has scored another 1,404 runs in the other Cup competitions taking his overall first team tally to 16,558.
Danny has another 597 runs in the above competitions taking his total to 6,800.
All other relevant players have been re-calculated and updated. The results will be available soon on the club website.
