Heywood CC continued their superb run of form to defeat Royton at the Paddock, keeping the pressure firmly on Walsden at the top of the CLL First Division table. Last night’s (Wednesday’s) Taylor Cup semi-final clash between Heywood and Royton was abandoned without a ball being bowled. However, the match has been re-arranged to next Wednesday at Crimble (unless I hear otherwise) which means we still have our chance of reaching the final. There’s a big night of cricket for the under-18s at Crimble on Wednesday. Heywood take on Royton in the semi-finals of the Taylor Cup. Heywood were victorious when the two sides met earlier in the season, but everyone present knew Royton were a decent team and can cause problems. Captain Roger Smethurst provided the telling blows yesterday that landed Heywood Seconds their first Burton Cup semi-final place since 1996. Well, the weather seems to have settled down a little ahead of a big game for Heywood’s first and second teams as they look for cup honours today.
