HEYWOOD’S hopes of a top five finish to the Central Lancashire League season were hit in a frustrating home defeat to Littleborough.
The Crimble side eventually lost by 21 runs chasing a recalculated target of 200 in a match severely disrupted by rain.
Boro rattled up 248-5 from their 50 overs thanks to a classy 95 not out by professional Clinton Perren and 70 by Jon Henderson, who shared a third wicket stand of 139.
Henderson had survived what looked a plum lbw appeal off his first ball from Chris Kaye at 58-2.
Rain towards the end of the Boro innings saw the target reduced to 234 off 46 overs, and the weather again intervened with Heywood struggling on 72-3 from 20.3 overs.

Chris Kaye had John Henderson plumb LBW first ball, but it was not given by umpire Paul Rocca
Heywood, thanks to some big hitting by Paterson, even hinted at an unlikely victory but eventually closed on 179.
