Former Heywood Cricket Club pro Brendan Taylor earned himself a place in the record books today.
The current Zimbabwe skipper became the first player from his country to score back-to-back centuries in one-day international cricket.
He scored an unbeaten 128 in Zimbabwe’s nine-wicket defeat in the opening match of their series against New Zealand in Harare.
Then Taylor followed this up with another unbeaten century today, scoring 107 as his side made 259-8 against the Kiwis. However, New Zealand, spearheaded by Martin Guptill, passed their target with 10 balls remaining.
Taylor had an indifferent season as pro at Crimble in 2009, scoring 514 runs at an average of just over 30 with three fifties.

There were people who doubted Brendan as he struggled to come to terms with our slower pitches. His performances at the highest levels of the game prove how lucky we were to get him at short notice in our ‘post Ruevin crisis’. Congratulations to Martin Shaw and the Chairman for spotting potential; and perhaps members should show more patience, as overseas players adjust to our level.
i agree david certain people were quick to judge. he is a top player and a good lad. it also needs to be noted that his wages very rarely went home with him and found themselves back behind the bar.
