Following is a message from first team captain Bobby Cross.
It’s a massive chance for us to make huge strides to becoming the club we all hope and want to be, harnessing the local community to help improve things for the local community and instilling a sense of pride in the club.
This is a huge chance for the club to make a mark on the national stage. We can hope for Sky TV coverage and the presence of famous cricketers and sports people.
It’s hard to overstate how massive a deal this is, and much more will become evident in the future. It is also a prelude to some superb news in the New Year which will show just how quickly this club is progressing.
Heywood Cricket Club are delighted to announce that we have been selected as one of three national showcase clubs for the Natwest CricketForce weekend in March/April 2012.
NatWest CricketForce is an England and Wales Cricket Board volunteering initiative aimed at rejuvenating cricket facilities throughout England and Wales.
NatWest CricketForce encourages cricket supporters, their friends and families to give back to their local cricket club by volunteering to undertake renovation work in club houses and grounds. This gives the club a huge opportunity to improve facilities, create partnerships with local businesses and to increase participation and involvement in the club generally, not just for the weekend.
Heywood Cricket Club will be hosting a public meeting at the end of January at which the ECB, LCB and the club will explain more about the day itself and the preparation that goes into it. In the meantime the committee and a vast number of volunteers are already working on the planning side of the day. The club will be undertaking a series of renovation and maintenance projects on the day and around the weekend as a whole.
Initial plans are for:
- The extension and renovation of the patio area
- Renovation of the ladies toilets
- Provision of power to the far side of the ground via underground cables
- Maintenance work to the steps in front of the changing rooms
- Re-pointing and guttering at the rear of the club
- Some internal redecoration
- Improvements to the scorebox internally
- Planting of flowers and plants in flower beds around the ground
- Painting the walls around the ground
- Painting the site screens and fences
- Painting the changing rooms
- Preparing the covers
- Setting out the benches around the ground
- Putting up new advertising boards
We are open to suggestions from members if there are any other areas that the club can look into. The jobs should ideally be realistic and achievable over the weekend. The re-surfacing of the car park with tarmac has been considered but is not going to be feasible at this time.
The club will be harnessing the support of the ECB and LCB along with local businesses, individuals and schools in the run up to the event. NWCF has a host of official supporters who offer discounted materials and products and the club are sure that local businesses will provide support for a great day that will include some famous faces and hopefully a few of our famous “old boys”.
There will be much, much more to come on this but please let us know whether there is anything you want to see done at the club in addition to the list above.
Bobby Cross

Scoop
The strides the club have made over the last year and the new ventures that appear to be on the horizon are unbelievable from the shape we were in little under 10 years ago!! Hopefully what we’re acheiving can be replicated by clubs around the league and work as an example to all that you can help yourselves if there is a desire to improve!!
My brief note though is to say thanks to all those behind the scenes who for the most part work under the radar and shy away from the credit they actually deserve!! There are a bunch of people at the club right now who’s work and efforts go far behind that of club member!! These are people undertaking unpaid work taking up valuable personal time to benefit our club and others!!
Naming names isn’t necessary at this stage but hopefully those who deserve the credit will receive the praise they fully deserve in due course. For now, to all those involved in propelling the club forward at breakneck pace ……………. THANK YOU !!
You know who you are and the effort thats gone into getting the club to the level its currently at is much appreciated!!
Your a credit to the club and your hard work will benefit members and future members alike for a long, long time to come !!
Awesome work folks !!
