Heywood CC Committee
A sports club is only as good as the enthusiasm of the committee.
Here at Heywood Cricket Club, we are lucky to have many people who give their all to ensure the ongoing viability and development of the club.
Be it ensuring the finances of Heywood Cricket Club are in order, maintaining the quality of the playing surface and its surrounds, or ensuring the buildings are kept safe and sound, the members of the committee – and many other committed club members – are always on the ball.

ABOUT THE REST OF THE HEYWOOD CC COMMITEE:
President: Bob Cross
Former first team opening bowler, Bob held the record as the all time leading wicket taker for the club until he was passed by David Fare and more recently Chris Kaye. Bob captained Heywood from 1967-1973 winning the League Championship in 67 and 68 and the Wood Cup in 70 and 71. A life member of the club, he has served on committee, been Chairman and is currently the President.
Secretary: Gwen Edwards
Another life member of the club, Gwen has been involved since her sons came through the junior ranks. Currently the club secretary and a child welfare officer, Gwen has most recently devoted a huge amount of time to helping the club attain ClubMark status. Recently nominated for the Rochdale Borough’s “volunteer of the year” award.
Subscriptions Secretary: Yvonne Caveney
Yvonne, a former vice-chairman of the club has now taken on the thankless task of subscriptions secretary. A keen traveller to the trouble-spots of the world, Yvonne does a fantastic job of ensuring that all members, both playing and social, are paid up and combines this with her fundraising role for the club.
Ground Chairman: Rick Purser
Rick returned to Heywood in 2002 after a spell at neighbours Middleton and helped the club move into a decade of success on the field. Along with his band of willing volunteers the huge Crimble ground is kept looking immaculate and it is no coincidence that Lancashire cricket is returning gradually to Crimble. Still playing in the second eleven when he can be dragged from the golf course.
Roger Smethurst
Roger continues to combine his work on the ground and his captaincy of the second team. Roger deals extremely well with the difficult balance of giving promising youngsters a chance whilst trying to create a successful environment that leads into first team cricket. Keen golfer and wine critic.
Treasurer: Gill Knowles
Gill is responsible for keeping the club running smoothly and does a terrific job. When she isn’t playing bowls, Gill is often found with her trusty notebook trying desperately to avoid the President.
House Chairman: Tom McGoldrick
“Eddie” keeps the maintenance of the club going and has recently overseen the installation of both the new heating system and the new sewage pumps. When he isn’t arranging for something to be fixed he can be found volunteering with the Under 18′s side and playing in the Third XI.
Social Chairman: Dale Latham
New to the committee Dale has taken on responsibility for organising and running the social calendar. Combining this role with playing a big part of the 1st team.
Junior Cricket Chairman: Bobby Cross
Nephew of the President, Bobby has played at the club from the age of seven and has recently stood down as 1st team captain after 10 years in the role.
Website Administrator: Scott McHugh
Former first teamer Scott has returned to the club after moving back from Beverley this year and has been responsible for the creation of the new website, Twitter and Facebook pages. A journalist by trade, Scott also contributes many of the Heywood Advertiser reports on the events at Crimble. Lists David Fare as his mentor.
