GUEST REPORT BY DAVID CROSS: HEYWOOD swept aside a disappointing Worsley team with an impressive 10-wicket victory at Crimble.
Key players were Chris Kaye and Travis Townsend with five and four wickets respectively, then Andy Kerr followed up with an unbeaten half-century.
Worsley won the toss and elected to bat. However, they were soon in trouble with wickets falling rapidly early on.
Townsend claimed the first of his haul when he bowled Rawding with only four runs on the board.
Simon Dawson chipped in just four runs later with a quick ball moving away from Irwin to allow Dale Latham to take a catch behind the wicket.
Townsend then took three successive wickets, bowling Eric then having Patel and Smith caught by Latham and Kerr respectively, leaving Worsley in big trouble at 18-5 and looking desperate at drinks with the score at 36-7.
The Crimble faithful were delighted to see Chris Kaye introduced into the attack just before the halfway stage and were rewarded when he took the last five Worsley wickets.
His left-arm orthodox action baffled the opposition lower order, and he ended the Worsley innings having taken 5-43.
Credit should be given to Purcell coming in at No 6, who was the last batsman out having scored a worthy 44 out of the total of 96 all out.
Kerr and Latham opened for Heywood and both looked untroubled as they steadily got the scoreboard moving.
Both finished unbeaten, Latham on 28 and Kerr on 54, as they cruised past the opposition total in the 17th over with Heywood ending on 97-0 with 33 overs to spare.
