REPORT BY ROB MORLEY: Heywood under-11s got back to winning ways as they dodged the weather at Radcliffe’s Racecourse ground.
The win keeps them top of the table with just three games remaining.
On arrival at the ground, the Radcliffe representatives had already prepared the wicket and were ready for a game which was quickly underway with the toss being won by Heywood captain Jack Morley who placed Radcliffe in to bat.
With a somewhat damp wicket and wet outfield, both teams here cautious in their approach to both batting and bowling.
Hhowever, Heywood were the dominant force with the ball in the first innings, restricting the home team to 218 at the end of their innings.
Ethan Harding, who impressed in training on the Tuesday nigh,t was given license to bowl a full four over spell and did not disappoint. Ethan has progressed very well this year and will no doubt be a valuable member of the under-11’s team next season.
Also the team had a debutant on show in Ben Cockayne, who also impressed in training. Ben was given just the one over towards the end of the innings where he managed to restrict the home team to 1-2 off his over, a great effort.
The bowling figures for Heywood were: Morley 4-1-3-3; Harding 4-1-9-1; Kilroy 4-3-5-1; Cockayne 1-0-2-1.
During the interval the weather graced us with its presence in the form of a heavy shower, however with both teams and management keen to finish the game Heywood came out to bat as soon as the shower had stopped.
Manager Grogan had urged the team to bat safely as the chase was only small and caution had to be used due to the conditions, which was taken on board by the young players.
With this in mind and a small total to chase down, boundaries were scarce and the team did a great job of taking singles with great communication between the pairs.
Heywood ended the innings on a total of 250, winning the game by 32 runs which keeps the team top of the league table going into the last three games of the season.
Top scorers for Heywood were Bagshaw 12, Harding 11 and Bowden-Witts 7.
The MOM award this week goes to Ethan Harding for his all-round performance and improvement. Well done Ethan.
Thanks to Mikey Grogan for scoring and to all the parents for their continued support in testing conditions. Your support is extremely valued.
Well done to all the team, let’s keep our focus and go for league title.
